What to leave off an office baby shower menu: four cautions, and the swap for each
A baby shower is the office party where the guest of honor comes with a real list of foods to avoid. Four cautions cover most of it, and each has a swap nobody notices.
- Raw fish. Cooked rolls, seared fish, and the cooked protein on a poke bar keep the format without the raw rail.
- Deli meat. Cold cuts are out, the same meat heated through is not. Order sandwiches hot, or build the tray on roast chicken.
- Soft unpasteurized cheese. Hard aged cheeses are fine, and so is brie or feta made with pasteurized milk.
- Alcohol. Not only the glass. It is in the food too.
That last one gets missed. Tiramisu is soaked in coffee liqueur, rum cake is named for it, and bourbon runs through pecan pie. Ask which dishes are cooked with alcohol, not only what you poured.
