As we near the Holidays we tend to reflect on the year, on what we are thankful for, and the future. Food is a central part of every holiday celebration no matter what you celebrate. While many of us have plenty to eat, more than 48.8 million Americans (16.2 million of them children) who go hungry every year. Food drives, volunteering at soup kitchens, and many other channels are great for helping those in need; but, let’s get creative, how else can we help? How can we keep this spirit of giving that is alive and well during the holiday season going all year long?
It’s no secret that tech workers have been known to enjoy some of the finest perks offered in the workplace—one of those perks being free meals and snacks. Employees enjoy beautiful lunch spreads and mountains of muffins, but often times there can be large amounts of leftovers. What happens when there are 50 sandwiches leftover from an executive meeting? What about 20 pounds of salad?
One of our core company values is community. That community encompasses both internally, our workplace and the workplaces of our clients; as well as externally, the greater community we belong to as a business. In an effort to tackle a larger issue of food waste, while helping to give back to our community, we have teamed up with both Rescuing Leftover Cuisine and Feeding Forward in three markets (New York, Washington DC, and the San Francisco Bay Area). Both companies pick up leftover food and deliver it to shelters and other community organizations that are in need.
We are hoping that along with our clients, we can take a bite out of hunger. Join us today, and start donating your leftovers.
