As Jane Austen once eloquently stated, “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a woman in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a burrito.” Or something along those lines.
I know that living in California should give me some type of higher standard for burritos. But you know what? I love Chipotle—I don’t need a San Diego-style burrito, and I do not understand those rice-less things that cause the salsa to drip everywhere. I’m not above hybrids by any means, but french fries in your ‘rito? I mean come on, show some respect.
I digress—back to the good stuff. Chipotle and its Guacamole. Yes, I do believe it deserves a capital G; Chipotle Guacamole is a proper noun in my book.
Everyone and I mean everyone, loves guacamole. What is not to love? Perfectly chilled, smashed avocado mixed with a little spice and lime, garnished with a hint of cilantro. I just had it and the thought of it is making me salivate once more. Whenever someone suggests chips and guac I nearly get offended, primarily because I assume it’s an assumed menu order to kick off any meal.
So here we have it, my Definitive List of the Best Guacamole in San Francisco, excluding Chipotle*:
- Tacolicious– is this because I live in The Marina? Maybe, but go do yourself a favor and try it before judging.
- Tropisueno– simple, spicy and delicious.
- Rosa Mexicano– table side guacamole is on par with bottle service for me.
- Garaje– It’s been over a year since I’ve been here, and I still think about it enough to list on my favorites.
- Mamacita’s- It is important to note that I do not love this restaurant, but they put a candle in a personal serving of guac for you on your birthday. There is no better gift.
- Tacko/Nick’s/TacoBar, etc- It’s good, it’s easy and always hits the spot
Happy Feasting! Make yourself a marg and let me know your favorite spots!
