Welcome to Zerocater’s Culture Club where you’ll meet the rockstars who are behind the scenes of our daily operations making sure our customers have delicious office meals and snacks, each and every time.
- Jordan Katz
- Account Executive
- New York
Tell us about your current role and what you do?
I’m responsible for helping to sell our product to new and prospective clients who may or may not already offer in-office meals as an employee benefit or work perk. It’s equal parts evangelization, business development, negotiation and… striking while the iron is hot!
What is the best part about your role at Zerocater?
The start-up culture as a whole; where there is a direct line of communication to every business unit and even to our CEO. Everyone has a can-do attitude!
How have you grown in your career since joining Zerocater?
After being in Sales for the better part of a decade, Zerocater has been top-notch in allowing me to fine-tune the traits and skills needed to be successful and to set a path towards continued growth within the company.
What is your motto or personal mantra when it comes to your career?
- Keep learning and growing – there’s always an opportunity to do so.
- Don’t present a problem without a solution.
Why did you decide to join Zerocater?
After focusing on Media & Advertising Sales for most of my career, I wanted to take a step back and re-focus on something I’m passionate about (all things Food). In came an opportunity at Zerocater which was a bit of a deviation but happily, I’ve never looked back!
What has been your most memorable moment with a customer, vendor, or candidate at Zerocater?
My first day, which was such a shell-shock moment coming from the Media industry. I’m greeted with a welcome breakfast (Chorizo Burritos from Landhaus… MMmm). The day flies by and I’m then told we have a social/culture event where the entire office is going for laser tag. How can I pass that up? What a start to a new company and industry!
What is your proudest accomplishment at Zerocater and Why?
Being able to ramp up appropriately and shift gears towards identifying what it meant to be successful here at Zerocater and in the industry as a whole. That, and being able to apply my experience towards those on the team who have questions, need advice, or simply want to brainstorm ideas. There’s no greater satisfaction than providing input that has led to a team member’s success.
What advice would you give to someone hoping to join the Zerocater team?
Come with your ambition, your creativity, and most importantly, your gumption. Responsibility will come fast and furious to those that want it. Be prepared to take ownership of your role on your team.
What’s the best way to start your workday?
Addressing any time-sensitive needs and prospecting through industry-specific resources to hopefully find new opportunities not just for myself, but for the team as well. Having a very large Grady’s Cold Brew in-hand helps make that happen too!
Tell us two truths and one lie about yourself?
- I was born on the sixth day, of the sixth month, at the sixth minute of the sixth hour, weighing six pounds & six ounces.
- When I was 17, I went to a high school party on a Saturday Night in Jericho, NY where I met an attractive and shy brown-eyed brunette. We got to talking in our mutual friend’s kitchen for hours and eventually, I ended up having my first kiss with her. Unfortunately, I never heard from her again. I found out from our mutual friend it was Natalie Portman.
- During a summer high school program at UCLA, I went out one night with a few friends to a now-closed hip restaurant, EuroChow, and saw Matthew Lillard and Tara Reid dining together. We struck up enough nerve to buy a Diet Coke for both of them. Matthew Lillard thought it was awesome, came over to chat and even took a picture with us while Tara Reid never acknowledged the free soda.
What does an ideal Sunday look like for you?
As a new father, an ideal Sunday would be one in which my son is happy, eats well and naps frequently (which allows his mom and dad to do the same).
What’s at the top of your bucket list?
Seeing a game at every MLB ballpark. I’m about a third of the way there (11 Total). Wrigley Field (Cubs), Safeco Field (Mariners), PNC Park (Pirates), Comerica Park (Tigers) and Coors Field (Rockies) round out my Top 5 to still visit.
Last question, what is your favorite meal you’ve had at Zerocater?
This is easy, Excell’s Kingston Eatery. Their Mac Pie, Jerk Chicken, and Yellow Gold Hot Sauce are second-to-none.
