Seasonal Eats: Which Produce is in Season & When

Walk into most grocery stores and you’re sure to find tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers—likely all year round. But in many places, those items—and many others—do not grow year round. Many vegetables are shipped in from other places if they are out of season where you live. But eating seasonally, meaning produce that is in season where you live, has a number of important benefits. In season produce typically does not rely on the same waxes, preservatives, and chemicals used to preserve the appearance and flavor of out-of-season produce because it’s shipped from far away. And fruit and veggies picked at their peak harvest point often have more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants than items picked before they’re ripe. Curious which items are in season now?
