Memorial Day Weekend kicks off a mass exodus in NYC. After having only lived here for one summer, it’s no secret that the natives flee the city at every chance they can during the summer months. At first, I was super confused why anyone would ever want to leave this city… like ever. Then I started to get a feel for all of the amazing places they were headed and it started to make more sense.
The Hamptons, the Jersey Shore, Newport, and other East Coast destinations have a ton to offer and they’re just a short distance from the Big Apple. Here’s a sneak peek into some hot destinations New Yorkers will be venturing toward this weekend:
The Hamptons– I’ve been told that the Hamptons is the only place where what you see on TV truly exists in real life. You can drive or take a train, but why bother when helicopter rides from Manhattan are available? You’ll probably see a celebrity or two, eat lots of seafood, and spend your day drinking fancy, overpriced cocktails. Why not though? It is summer after all!
The Jersey Shore– I need to be careful describing this popular destination because there are quite a few people from NJ in the office at Zerocater. I took the safe route and simply asked them where they would recommend as a “must go” place this summer. All were in agreement that Surf Taco is an absolute. Funnily enough, they first opened in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ on Memorial Day 2001. But if you’re looking for a $10 lobster, head over to Parker House. The restaurant was established before any of you were born back in 1878!
Newport– Newport has beautiful beaches and pulls a slightly different crowd than other destinations. If you’re looking for an elegant culinary and wine experience, be sure to head over to The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar. You definitely can’t miss the patio at The Black Pearl. We can always use a good summer day full of rum channeling Johnny Depp, right?
As you head into the long weekend, we wish you happy sunshine-filled festivities. Tell us more about where you spent your Memorial Day Weekend in the comments!
